Junior Road – Bunch Rides

Bunch Rides:

Regular group rides are undertaken on weekends with kids and parents new to cycling.

Skills training is usually done in the carpark before-hand to improve riders handling ability, and defensive cycling skills are taught on the road, as well as bunch riding techniques.

As riders gain more experience, we take them further with these rides to develop their skills to the next level. We 'play' bike and have lots of fun!

Beginners

Riders are generally aged around 10-13 years, but anyone new to cycling – who don't have a group to ride with – are welcome to join us. Parents are welcome to participate in these rides too.

Rides can be adapted to suit newbies who only want to do 17km, but for those who want to we can continue for up to 35km.
Our beginner rides include basic defensive road riding skills.

Intermediates

Riders are generally aged around 12-13 years, but anyone relatively new to cycling – who don't have a group to ride with – are welcome to join us. Parents are welcome to participate in these rides too.

Rides are generally 35km-50km long, depending on the day.

Winter & Summer Details

In winter months we meet Sundays at 8:30am Evans Bay Marina car park (start and finish point). We'll do some skills training first, and then break into 2-3 groups (beginners and intermediates). Allow 1.30-2hrs total, as we aim to be back at the carpark by 10:30am.

In summer months we meet on Saturdays at 8am at the Evans Bay Marina car park. Everything else is the same as above, just 30 minutes earlier.

Most riders use road bikes, but contact Gary if you want to discuss this or to find out about rental road bikes if you don't have one.

Bring snacks with you for eating on the go.

Cancellations

Updates are put on the juniors Facebook page and rides may be changed to an indoor spin session in Hataitai Park if raining.
